Welcome

The UMHSparrow-MSU IM Residency is a joint partnership between the Michigan State University Department of Medicine and UMH-Sparrow Hospital, a tertiary teaching hospital located in Lansing, Michigan. We are a dynamic, learner centered program focusing on our residents’ individual needs and goals to produce excellent physicians. Medical residents are trained by University faculty with the benefits of training in a large academic hospital. This institution also offers fellowships in Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Pulmonology/Critical Care, Infectious Disease, Endocrinology, and Hospice/Palliative Care. This provides our residents great exposure to the different specialties of medicine.

Clinical Experience

Our program offers extensive training covering the broad scope of Internal Medicine. This is accomplished by the dedicated faculty in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Convenient Location

Mid Michigan is a family friendly environment with the back drop of the state capitol and Michigan State University – a world renown university. East Lansing, specifically, is a nationally recognized as a top small metro area. Commute to work is short-far below that in much larger cities such as Detroit, Cleveland, Columbus, and Chicago.

Program Faculty

Our faculty consists of a strong group of skilled internists. Each is dedicated to the enhancement of medicine and the education of residents and medical students.

Research

Research experience is a vital part of our resident training. This activity is ongoing throughout the three years with assistance by faculty mentors. We also offer dedicated research time in the form of a Clinical Investigation elective rotation.
